Went out for a family meal last weekend with all my extended family and my cousin of a similar age said something that had everyone in stitches. When asked if she and her boyfriend (who now have a daughter together) were planning on getting engaged, the reply came “I’m not really bothered about a ring or anything, I just want to get engaged so I can put it on Facebook”. But the scariest thing was that she really wasn’t joking. This isn’t uncommon either, I was speaking to a couple of friends who have just got together and in the midst of chatting about their new relationship it was mentioned that it was only official once they had each set their relationship status accordingly. And now with Facebook intergration into mobile and portable devices left, right and centre there is just no escaping the fact that it is quickly becoming part of everyones daily routine.
To be absolutely clear here I am not making that last statement under any degrogatory terms, on the contrary. It is truely amazing to be living through this huge technological advancement in the way we are communicating. I still can’t seem to get my head round the people who are forever picking holes and up in arms about Facebook, Twitter and the like. They’re not damaging our social abilities they’re enhancing them.
